From their creation in Ancient Rome to the present day, fireplaces have continued to develop and play an important role in our lives and memories. First and foremost fireplaces inspire warmth and comfort. In the past, fireplaces were used as the main source of heat in homes. They provided a warm and inviting hearth, creating a comfortable and comforting atmosphere. They also enabled all the members of a household to gather together in one place.
One might think that fireplaces are no longer essential in contemporary homes, thanks to modern heating developments. But they are not, incorporating a fireplace into your living room is back in fashion. Increasingly energy-efficient, modern fireplaces and other stoves also enable you to heat your home more cheaply, without having to depend on rising electricity or gas prices, which have been increasing steadily for several months now.
Finally, some antique fireplaces occupy a central position in terms of location and decoration, which also makes them the best choice for positioning your main TV screen. Indeed, your living room wouldn't be complete without a TV mounted above the fireplace, as it creates a special aesthetic and doubles your visual pleasure. The fireplace and the TV usually compete to be the focal point of a living room, so if you can have them both in the same place, all the better.
Everyone loves to sit back and watch TV over a fireplace, especially during the darker, colder months when warm air is essential. What's more, if you don't have enough space in your living room and your furniture is already perfectly placed, positioning a TV over a fireplace may be the best solution for you. That's why more and more people want to integrate a TV over a fireplace into a modern mirrorin an antique trumeau, or install an all-in-one mirror TV (like the TVs in the TV standard mirrors WEMOOVE) above a modern fireplace.
How to choose the right fireplace mirror?
Mirrors placed above a fireplace were once called "trumeau mirrors". Overmantel mirrors were placed on mantels in royal residences as a sign of wealth. The aim was to give a little more importance to a mantel that was sometimes dull and banal.
Today, the idea remains the same: Place a mirror above the fireplace to decorate and enhance it.. However, today it's possible to play with the possibilities and give your fireplace a new style. For example, if you have an antique fireplace, a mirror will give your mantelpiece and your interior a more contemporary, designer look.
To make the right choice for your mantelpiece mirror, there are four points to define before you buy: determine the size of your future mirror according to your mantelpiece and the style you want to achieve, look at how you can place it (fixed to the picture or floating on top of the mantelpiece), define the type of installation (recessed in the wall or surface-mounted) and finally choose the style of mirror you want (contemporary, classic, design...).
The main purpose of the mirror above the mantelpiece is to decorate it and set it off from the rest of the furniture in your room. There's no question of practicality. So you can indulge yourself and indulge yourself to your heart's content.
Large mirrors create a spacious effect by enlarging the view. A large mirror above the fireplace makes the wall disappear, reflecting everything in front of it. A sleek mirror with a simple or narrow, beveled frame is a great choice for smaller rooms. Hanging a mirror as wide as your fireplace provides an interrupted image and visually enlarges the space. If your room has a high ceiling, opt for high mirrors.
To break away from a classic style, opt for mirrors in oval or non-traditional shapes. With original frames, they will give the wall above the fireplace more prominence than traditional mirrors with classic frames. A grouping of mirrors in different shapes is a real eye-catcher, offering an unusual, designer look.
The different styles and moods of fireplace mirrors
Classic style with antique mirrors
For a classic look on an antique mantel, opt for a large, gilded antique mirror. Timeless, gilded antique mirrors have been adorning mantels for a very long time. What could be more majestic than a 19th-century beaded pediment mirror with its gold leaf frame set above the Haussmann marble mantel of a period apartment? If you lack inspiration, WEMOOVE will find the antique mirror that best suits your interior. There are no restrictions: you can integrate a screen into any antique mirror, bringing it back to life and transforming it into a jewel of technology.

Contemporary and modern styling
For a contemporary look, opt for a mirror with original dimensions and shape. For example, a mirror framed by the same mouldings as those used for the woodwork in the room in which it will be installed will allow it to truly blend into the décor for an ultra-modern look. Or opt for a mirror the size of the mantelpiece, full-height and unframed, for a clean, resolutely contemporary look.
For a more industrial look, choose a mirror with a slim steel frame in black or dark colors.

What screen size to choose and how to position it?
As for the television set that will hide behind your mirror, you will need to define its size: the range of WEMOOVE custom-made built-in TVs allows you to choose from screens ranging from 60 cm diagonal to 190 cm. This wide choice will enable you to find the best compromise between the width of your fireplace and viewing distance.
Positioning your TV at the right height is an important decision.. A reasonable height not only enhances the viewer's viewing experience, but can also help to balance the space in the room. It also ensures that the TV and fireplace complement each other.
Here are a few points to consider when positioning the TV in the mirror at a reasonable height:
- Positioning the fireplace: the position of the fireplace in relation to the mirror TV is important in determining the height at which the image area should be positioned. As the chimney is usually located in the center of the room, the TV should be positioned just above the chimney, as close as possible to the apron, so that it is not too high; for obvious aesthetic reasons, it should be centered horizontally.
- Viewing distance: it is recommended to place the TV at a viewing distance of at least 1.5 times the diagonal of the screen; there is no limit in terms of size, it will depend on the width of the fireplace and the desire to have a larger or smaller screen at home. Beyond a distance of more than 3 times the screen diagonal, viewing is considered less comfortable.
- Furniture height: if you're using a TV stand or shelf, make sure that the height of the TV is neither too high nor too low in relation to the surrounding furniture.
- Eye-level height: finally, it's important that the height of the chimney TV is adjusted as closely as possible to the eye level of the viewer when seated; for optimum comfort, you'll need to provide cushions for your sofa so that you can tilt your head slightly during your cinema sessions!
All that's left to do is decide whether you want to recess your screen into the wall, or mount it on the wall if it's impossible to cut a niche in the wall on which the mirror will be placed.

For small and medium-sized mirrors, you can easily mount them above your fireplace. It's also a budget-friendly choice.

Constraints to take into account: beware of the heat!
The temperature around the TV should never exceed 50°C for any length of time, to avoid damaging the liquid crystals making up the LCD panel. The ideal chimney for a flat-screen TV should produce a minimum of heat where the screen is to be installed, and have a powerful air supply and a solid mantle.
In all cases, we strongly recommend a thermometer test.
Here's how it works: place a thermometer in the middle (approximately) of the area where you want to hang your TV. Turn on your fireplace and leave it running for a few hours. Examine the thermometer and check the temperature. If the temperature exceeds 50°C, the heat is too high to place your TV above the fireplace. If the temperature is below 50°C, you can safely install your TV above the fireplace, as WEMOOVE built-in mirror TVs feature a 2 mm-thick metal frame, and the 5 mm-thick tempered glass mirror protects the LED LCD panel from heat. Please note that this temperature is only valid for WEMOOVE flush-mounted mirror TVs; the purpose of the flush-mounting is to keep heat away from the TV screen. In the case of a conventional, non-recessed TV, a temperature of 38°C must not be exceeded.
If the maximum temperature is exceeded, all is not lost. You'll need to use the right insulation to ensure that your screen's longevity doesn't suffer over time. However, avoid the use of conventional TVs bought off the shelf or resold by integrators, which have a plastic-coated chassis and slab, as this type of material does not mix well with heat.
Why choose a WEMOOVE mirror TV for your fireplace?
At WEMOOVEAs the world's leading manufacturer of flush-mounted, made-to-measure, waterproof mirror TVs for over 10 years, we have spent many days working on the balance between Reflectance (light reflection) and Transmittance (light transmission) of our mirrors. This is to achieve the best possible display performance, while guaranteeing a perfect mirror and the impossibility of detecting the presence of a screen when it's switched off.
Featuring a 2 mm-thick metal frame and a 5 mm-thick tempered glass mirror, our telescopic mirrors are more heat-resistant than conventional TVs plastic, as we explained earlier... The waterproofing and flush-mountability of our mirrored screens ensure a long service life even in the most confined spaces, and particularly when they're recessed into a niche above a fireplace: sealed to IPX4 standards, soot and other ash emanating from the chimney won't be able to get inside the TV and hinder its smooth operation over the long term, by clogging vents or electronic board components.
Unlike other brands or integrators who offer TV mirrors with standard luminosity, we offer slabs with a higher luminosity. Ultra-Bright for ever-brighter images, even in bright daylight. Brightness levels ranging from 500 to 1000 cd/m2 are available on almost all our models, i.e. performance levels 2 to 3 times higher than the competition.
A high-end product like our mirror TV must have top-of-the-range performance, which can only be achieved by using top-quality components combined with the very latest technology. We guarantee the use of the best LCD/LED panels available on the market, as this is one of the most important components for obtaining the best picture quality on a TV. If you choose WEMOOVE for your TV mirror, you're guaranteed :
- a perfectly homogeneous mirror when switched off, without the possibility of detecting a screen
- the best image quality, bright and without text splitting, which is very unpleasant to view
We always advise our customers to check the quality of a mirror screen before ordering, as most brands put together a TV purchased in a supermarket with a poor-quality mirror, resulting in a very disappointing finish. To reassure yourself about the quality of our integrated TV mirrors, simply visit your nearest retailer and see for yourself: we are distributed in several hundred points of sale in France and Europe, and some of them display our products in their stores.
On the sound side, our vibrating speaker technology guarantees optimum sound quality without the need for additional speakers. The mirror transforms itself into a resonance chamber, transmitting crystal-clear sound without the need to drill holes in the glass, for great discretion and elegance.
